Next Lobby Day: May 14-15, 2007

We invite you to join us for two days of training and lobbying in Washington, DC during one of the most critical Congressional sessions for transgender equality. With a trans-inclusive Hate Crimes bill passed last year in the House and an active effort underway to introduce a trans-inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) in Congress for the first time, the transgender community urgently needs to educate our legislators. Read our Special Edition newsletter for more information about the current issues and educational efforts now underway.

Establishing a relationship with your legislators is one of the best ways to get transgender issues on the national agenda and advance the causes that matter to our community. NCTE will give you the tools and training to make your lobby visits effective and enjoyable, including information on your members of Congress, policy briefings and expert skills trainings. We’ll even help you schedule appointments on the Hill.

We hope you’ll join NCTE and fellow transgender advocates from across the country at our annual Washington Lobby Days!

To register for this event, or for more information, please email Simon Aronoff at or call (202) 903-0112.

Washington Lobby Day, May 15, 2006

A few of the participants on Capitol Hill

On May 15, over 20 transgender activists and allies from eight states--from Nevada to New Jersey to California and Ohio--conducted congressional visits with House and Senate staff. In over 30 meetings, NCTE members educated policymakers about the importance of trans-inclusive Hate Crimes legislation, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and other federal issues that impact our communities. Thank you to all who made time in their busy lives to join us in Washington, DC.

Washington Lobby Day, March 14, 2005
The National Center for Transgender Equality had our first annual Washington National Lobby Day on March 14, 2005. Transgender people and allies from around the country came to Washington, DC to meet with members of Congress to educate them on transgender issues.

The day was a success with transgender people and allies carrying out over 33 meetings with Congressional offices. NCTE provided the lobbyists with a day-long training on Sunday, March 13 where experienced professionals trained participants to effectively educate Congress on transgender issues.

Lobby Day gave transgender people and allies the opportunity to make face-to-face connections with members of Congress and begin forming relationship that will strengthen the work on future legislative issues. Lobbyists showed members of Congress and their staff that transgender people live in their states and districts and that their positions on critical pieces of legislation affects real lives.
